Friday, November 23: Light Up Louisville celebration begins at 4:00 p.m. at Fifth and Jefferson Streets. Activities include cookie decorating, writing letters to Santa, vendor village, and 15-passenger train. The Lots of Lights parade will begin at 6:30 p.m. The Christmas tree lighting begins at 8:00 p.m. For more information, please visitwww.lightuplouisville.org. 
Friday, November 23: Whitehall House & Gardens, 3110 Lexington Road, is hosting the second annual Candlelight Tour. Visit this historic Mansion that will be beautifully decorated for the holiday season by local florists and vendors that have generously donated their time and talent. The event will feature light refreshments, sweet treats and live music. Visit www.historicwhitehall.org to see participating vendors. Tickets to the Candlelight Tour are $10 per person if you order online or by phone, $12 at the door. Children under 10 yrs.- $5. Saturday, November 24: American Printing House for the Blind to host a Thanksgiving Open House from 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at 1839 Frankfort Avenue. Make reservations by November 23. Holiday goodies and hot cider will be served. Call 899-2213 or emailkcarpenter@aph.org to register.

You may have noticed that our newsletter was delivered a little differently this time. Instead of an image in your email it was a link to www.greenleavesneighborhood.com. I thought as long as we have a newsletter we should do it right and create a website for it. So we now own GreenleavesNeighborhood.com. Buying that name cost $12, well worth it I think. The hosting on Google is free. Right now the only thing on the website it is this newsletter addition. In the next few weeks I'll add a few more features, links, maybe a calendar. If anyone would like to help let me know. In other news, I learned last week that ATT now has fiber in our neighborhood, giving us an option other than Spectrum for high speed Internet. While I think Spectrum will work better for me for now, I think having a choice is a good thing. November 2018

First of all let me say again how great it was to see so many people at the Greenleaves Fall festival. It was amazingly successful. Several people mentioned that we could do things like this without corporate sponsorship, simply by pitching in. I have to agree. If throwing things together in two weeks can produce such a fun event, imagine what we can do with weeks of planning. With that in mind I would like to propose the Greenleaves Spring Fling.   If you would like to volunteer to help plan our Spring Fling please send me an email. Planners need to: ·         Set a date and a rain date. ·         Make lists of types of foods to bring and track who volunteers to bring what. ·         Print invitations and deliver them to each address (not everyone gets or wants emails from me). ·         Arrange games and activities for both children and adults. ·         Add all t...

Neighborhood Habitat for Bees

The American honey bee provides the keystone of the food chain.  Not only do they pollinate plants which humans eat, they pollinate plants eaten by the animals who supply humans with meat and milk.  According to research by the University of Maryland, there are 40% fewer  bees  in 2019 than there were in 2018.  How does this relate to Greenleaves? I recently learned that there are communities where people work together to give honey  bees  an extended habitat.  Instead of individuals planting flowers in their yards without connection to what grows in their neighbor's yard, the whole community intentionally plants herbs and flowers that will appeal to and help  bees  survive.  An entire neighborhood can feed a larger population of vitally essential  bees .
